Thailand Lantern festival

Restore & Release - Chiang Mai & Phuket

Dates

November 20th - November 27th 2021

(8 days, 7 nights)

This trip is open to both men & women

I visited Thailand in 2019 for its Yi Peng Chiang Mai lantern festival and absolutely loved it - it was a time for reflection and an opportunity to let go of the ills of the year! We are excited to share this once in a life time experience with more travelers.

This Thailand travel meet-up brings together two classic sides of the country.

Experience Chiang Mai during the best time of the year with an immersive culturally rich itinerary. Visit unique Asian tribes and ancient temples and enjoy the ultimate elephant experience at one of our favorite elephant sanctuaries and then venture off to Phuket for an island experience where you will enjoy Thailands’ pristine beaches and blue waters.

I CAN’T MAKE THE TRIP FOR THE DATES LISTED/UNABLE TO SECURE A SPOT ON THE TRIP

If you are interested in traveling to Thailand or any other country fill out the form on the plan my trip page and I will help put together a similar experience based on your dates and budget.

I AM ONLY INTERESTED IN ONE OF THE TWO LOCATIONS

That’s perfectly fine, this trip was curated to ensure that we cater to different tastes and preferences. You can either chose to participate in Chiang Mai and Phuket or the Chiang Mai trip only.

I WANT TO TRAVEL TO BANGKOK OR ANOTHER NEARBY COUNTRIES ASWELL

If you have extra time on your hands I would definitely suggest including Bangkok or other nearby countries in your travel plans. You could fly into Thailand a few days prior to the trip start date and explore Bangkok or other parts of Thailand on your own before joining the group for the trip. This is especially recommended if you are only signing up for one half of the trip experience.

If you need recommendations or help planning the rest of your trip email us and we would be happy to help put something together.

HOW MUCH FREE TIME IS THERE?

There will be many afternoons with some free time in the itinerary that you can use to relax, go out to explore or go shopping. All daily activities are optional so you are welcome to skip something in favor of some down time!

DO I NEED A VISA FOR THAILAND?

Generally most nationalities can enter Thailand without obtaining a visa. However, a visa may be required to travel to Thailand depending on what your nationality is. It is your responsibility to check the visa requirements based on your country of original / nationality and to obtain the correct visa for your trip. Please click this link to check if you will need a visa for the trip.

WHAT TIME DO WE CHECK IN AND CHECK OUT?

Check in is at 1 p.m. on the first day of your trip, if you are arriving later on in the day that is completely fine we have a welcome dinner on the first night so do your best to be in before 6 p.m. on the first day of the trip but if you are unable to arrive early you can take the first day to unwind and recuperate before day 2 of the trip. Check out is at 12 p.m. on the last day of the trip and you are able to keep your luggage at the hotel if your flight is later in the day on the day of check out but everyone must check out by 12 p.m.

ARE FLIGHTS INCLUDED?

International flights to Thailand are not included in the price, it is your responsibility to purchase your own flight for the trip.

FINDING THE RIGHT FLIGHT

  • I would suggest purchasing your flight early to save money, my go to search engines are Sky Scanner and Kayak for cheaper flight options. A great way to save money is to check the flight prices to nearby Asian countries like Vietnam, China, Singapore, Malaysia etc travel to these countries can be cheaper and booking flights between countries in south east asia is very affordable you can find flights for less than $100 roundtrip.

  • Compare flights going to Chiang Mai airport or Bangkok as-well. The trip starts in Chiang Mai but I would definitely suggest flying into Bangkok, Bangkok's international airport, Suvarnabhumi, is the cheapest airport in Thailand to fly into. So make Bangkok your first stop and maybe spend a few nights in the bustling capital, and then make your way around Thailand flights within Thailand can be as cheap as $15 on airlines such as Nok Air or Air Asia.

  • Booking travel shouldn't be about guess work, and the best way to find the cheapest flights is to monitor prices. If you don’t have any airlines in mind or don’t know where to start I suggest you check out Skyscanner.comCheaptickets.co.thExpedia.comKayak.comFareCompare.com. These flight search engine sites offer flight comparison where you can actually see different airfares from different airlines.

  • Check out international airlines such as Air China, Cathay Pacific, Korean Air, Japan Airlines, and China Eastern Airlines, which often offer flights for affordable prices.

  • Depart from airports with a higher volume of flights to Asia. For example, in the USA, LAX and JFK have more flights to Asia than all other cities in the USA. So you may find a cheaper flight by heading there first, then flying to Thailand.

  • For international trips, the best time to book a flight is at-least two to three months in advance.

5 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THAILAND:

  1. If going around the city by yourself, take tuk-tuks during the day, and taxis at night. Tuk-tuks are better at avoiding traffic and give you a better view of the city!

  2. Cover up while visiting temples to respect these religious spaces. Please bring at least one outfit that covers your arms and legs, as we will be visiting a temple and want to be respectful of religious customs.

  3. Eat off of your spoon, not your fork. While we’re used to eating with a fork and knife, eating with a spoon is customary in Thailand. We kinda like it, as you can eat more at once!

  4. Do NOT feed the monkeys. It may be tempting, but we’re super serious about this one. Feeding the monkeys can make them associate you with their source of food and latch onto you, potentially attacking you/your things. Additionally, feeding the monkeys prevents them from being able get their own food, as they become used to getting food from tourists in general. Long story short, don’t feed the monkeys; it’s bad for them and it’s bad for them.

  5. Be prepared to bargain! If you don’t see a price tag on the item, you can probably barter for a reasonable price. This can be fun, but if you feel unsure about the deal you’re getting, go to a couple of vendors to see what price they’re selling similar items for.
